About

Hello! I'm Julie. I am a performing arts designer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I specialize in scenic, props, and puppet work.
I have always been an artist. From day one, I've always loved getting my hands dirty and creating. As a child, I enjoyed drawing, painting, baking, sculpture, writing, making music, you name it. When I started my freshman year at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, I was a psychology major. I had never done theatre in my life. I had always appreciated the performing arts, but the closest I ever got to it was 11 years of band. It wasn't until a band trip to Universal Studios Orlando that I ever seriously considered pursuing the arts as a career. I remember looking at a mind blowing dragon egg prop while waiting in line for a ride, and finding myself enamored with all the details. I wondered aloud if there was a career path that would allow me to do this type of work. The woman in front of me in line just happened to have a sister in school for experience design, and she told me all about it.
Becoming a performing arts design major gave me a sense of purpose that I'd never felt before. I finally felt like there was a job out there where I could be my jack-of-all-trades self and be successful. I dream of working for entertainment industries and creating new worlds for people to get lost in, whether onstage or fully immersive. I especially love working with horror and fantasy themes. I also love scare acting during the Halloween season and working summer stock jobs whenever I can.
As for my near future, I plan to graduate from UL in 2026 with a BFA in performing arts, concentrated in design and technology, and a minor in visual arts. After graduation, I plan to get my MFA in scenic design while working with puppets on the side as much as possible. My ideal career is to work with very large scale projects, such as carnival style puppets and theme park scenery, and very small scale projects, such as stop motion media and model making.
In addition to theatre work, I am a freelance artist. I work with all sorts of media, and I have an Instagram account dedicated entirely to that. If you are interested in that sort of work, please contact me on instagram @(instagram under construction).
