The Tempest

A play by William Shakespeare University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Spring 2024 Director: Carl Granieri Stage Manager: Ella Greenway Scenic Designer/Technical Director: Marty Aikens My Credits: Scenic Carpenter, Scenic Painter, Scenic Artist This show was such a blast to work on. I love "The Tempest." It is probably one of my top three favorite Shakespeare plays (and I'm a big Shakespeare enjoyer). The design for this show was one of the most ambitious designs I had ever been on a build team for. Myself and the carpentry team spent endless hours perfecting this beautiful stage and the results were absolutely worth it. The Tempest involves and "above" and a "below," and our scenic designer, Marty Aikens, really wanted to show that with the set. we ended up using the trap door in the stage itself and built a tunnel system underneath the build for Caliban to crawl through. We also built and rigged a projected element called the Oculus. The Oculus allowed us to project things like the weather, time changes, and Prospero's eye watching over the island. From start to finish, I loved this show. It was my proudest achievement at the time, and it continues to hold a special place in my heart.
