I always have a sketchbook on me. Some of my favorite drawings are sketchbook exercises. While I tend to use croquis and a simplified, cartoon-leaning drawing style for my rendered costume designs, I like to practice figure drawing and details in my sketchbook. I took a very helpful costume design class where my professor spent a lot of time teaching the class about drawing proportional human figures and drawing realistic clothing. Most of my early training is with pencil drawing, so I feel right at home filling up a sketchbook.

Female Identifying Figure Practice

Figure drawing practice from an image. I experimented with using the "7 heads" proportion trick.

Male Identifying Figure Practice

This figure is partially traced from a photograph. I used this drawing to explore foreshortening with the leg and the relationship between the shape of a human figure and baggy clothes.

Music Project Sketch

This was going to stay a sketchbook project, but I decided to render it on my iPad over this drawing. This costume was inspired by "Space and Time" by 311.

Self Portrait

This is a reworked self portrait from a drawing class I took my sophomore year. I revisited this drawing after my costume design course to bring in the skills I learned in both classes.

Drawing of a Pair of Shoes

This is a detail drawing of my least favorite pair of shoes. I wanted to challenge myself by drawing a pair of running shoes since running shoes tend to have a lot of different textures.
